LEAVE.

163. On arriving in England the ficer on leave will report his arrival by letter to the Colonial Office and Crown Agents, mentioni his address, and he will similariy notify any subsequent chang address The Colonial Treasurer, Auditor and the Assistant Auditors should also send their addresses to the Director of Colonial Audit.

164. Officers on leave in the United Kingdom who are taken ill so as to require medical attention, and remain ill for a week, must report the fact to the Colonial Office, and, at the same time, forward a certificate from their medical attendant stating the nature of the illness, and, if possible, its probable duration,

165. On receipt of this certificate in the Colonial Office it will be decided, according to the circumstances, whether or not the officer should be sent for examination by one of the Consulting Physicians to the Colonial Office, or whether he should be required to forward further periodical reports until he has recovered

166. An officer on leave in the United Kingdom who desires an extension of leave beyond the period allowed by his leave certificate must apply to the Secretary of State in sufficient time if practicable to allow of reference to the Colony. In cases where it is necessary to refer by telegraph the applicant will be required to refund the cost of the telegrams.

(iii) Half Pay Leave.

167. Officers of this Class will not be eligible for half pay leave unless in the opinion of the Governor special circumstances render it necessary; provided that any such leave shall not exceed in the aggregate a period of six months on half pay,

(iv) Casual Leuve.

168.-(1.) An officer of this Class, other than an educational officer who receives the benefit of school vacations or a member of the Police Force may, if he can conveniently be spared from his duties, be granted short periods of casual leave up to a total of fifteen days in respect of and during each numerical year, or such leave may be accumulated up to a maximum of thirty days in respect of two numerical years. In the former case intervening Sundays and public holidays will not be counted as leave. Casual leave may not be combined with full pay leave and accumulated casual leave will not ordinarily be granted within six months of an officer's proceeding on long leave. Casual leave will not be taken into account in calculating the amount of leave for which an officer may be otherwise eligible.

(2.) The casual leave of officers of this Class in the Police Force is governed by Police Regulations.

(3.) Educational officers who do not receive the benefit of school vacations are eligible for casual leave in accordance with paragraph (1) of this rule.

C. Officers on the Permanent Establishment Domiciled in India.

(i) Full Pay Leave.

169.-(1.) Officers of this Class may be granted leave on fuli puy at the rate of two days' leave for every fifteen days resident service. Such leave will ordinarily be granted after five years' resident service, but will not usually exceed eight months at one time.

(2.) If the officer be granted shorter period of leave than that for which he is eligible, the balance will be reserved for his future use, unless he is about to retire in which case he will not be granted more than the leave for which he is cligible in respect of his resident service since his last return from leave to India up to a maximum of eight months.

(ii) Half Pay Leave.

170. Officers of this Class will be cligible for half pay leave only as is provided in the case of officers domiciled in Europe.

(i) Casual Leave.

171.—(1.) Officers of this Class, other than educational officers who receive the benefit of school vaertions members of the Police Force and Prison Staff, may be granted casual leave up to a total of twelve days in respect of and during each numerical year.

(2.) The casual leave of officers of this Class in the Police Force and in the Prison Department is governed by the regulations of those departments.

D. Officers on the Permanent Establishment Domiciled in the Far East.

(1) Full Pay Leave.

172. Officers of this Class, other than educational officers who receive the benefit of school vacations and members of the Police Force, may be granted full pay leave as follows:----
